Is your low carb or keto diet creating additional and unneeded stress for your body?

Did you know that carbohydrates are needed for many functions and systems in the body, including:

*Fertility and Hormones

*Adrenal Health

*Brain and Eye Health

*Proper Thyroid Functioning

*Mental Health and Sleep

Going too low carb can often create issues with a woman's hormones and even lead to infertility due to low levels of leptin.

Gentle carbs support adrenal health by supporting the natural cortisol cycle. This decreases the stress on the adrenals.

One simple tip is to eat breakfast within 1 hour of waking to energize the metabolism and support cortisol levels throughout the day.

Our brain and our eyes don't use ketones as well for fuel so if we aren't providing our body with the proper gentle carbs then we may start sacrificing the health of those systems. A caveat to this is that many times a keto diet is recommended for epilepsy but these extreme diets are never a good idea for the long term.

Carbohydrates are needed to make thyroid hormones. They are needed for a process called deiodination to convert T4 in the liver to the active form of thyroid hormone called T3. Carbs directly impact how much T4 gets converted to T3.

Additionally, carbs help lower stress hormones and stress levels. So, if you don't eat carbs or eat low carb your cortisol levels can rise. Cortisol can raise Thyroid Stimulating Hormones (TSH) which corresponds with a sluggish thyroid (hypothyroidism).

Gentle carbs calm the Nervous System. They increase GABA and actually feed the healthy intestinal bacteria that produces GABA. Gentle carbs also improve the cortisol or stress response and increase tryptophan uptake, serotonin and sleep.
